May 13 - June 5: Living Water Campaign

Support The Carpenter's Kids in Mwitikira!

Our shared love of Jesus Christ, the living water, leads us to continue an outreach partnership with the people of Mwitikira, Tanzania. Improved access to a clean, dependable water supply is a critical need for the 6,000 individuals in Mwitikira, a village located outside of the capital city of Dodoma.  Every year in Mwitikira, contaminated water sickens both adults and children, especially the poorest, and they die from water-borne diseases.

Under the leadership of Roger Whitfield, with expert technical help from the Diocese of Central Tanganyika, and in partnership with local leaders in Mwitikira, St. Paul’s is ready to take significant steps to improve the water supply there.  St. Paul’s has already set aside $23,000 from existing Millennium Development Goals funds and over $350 was raised during the Lenten mite box campaign. We estimate that an additional $16,000 is needed to complete the project.

2009 Campaign

As the final 2009 campaign for the Carpenter’s Kids, St. Paul’s Vestry has designated May 13th-June 5th as the time to gather support for Mwitikira!  In addition to your individual support, a group of St. Paul’s parishioners has established an $8,000 challenge gift to be used as a matching fund to secure the needed funds for the water project.

Four other projects also need support:

  1. $2,500 to supply the remaining desks for students in primary school (70 more needed);
  2. $500 for English language textbooks for students.
  3. $1,500 for soap, socks, book bags, and additional school supplies for the annual distribution to 136 Carpenter’s Kids; and
  4. $500 for materials to build shelves for a new Mwitikira library for which St. Paul's youth recently led a children's book drive.

A group of St. Paul's parishioners have established an $8000 challenge grant to match the other $8000 needed for the water project. The total needed for all 5 projects is $13,000.

Please make your donations to St. Paul's with The Carpenter's Kids in the memo line.
