God calls us to feed the hungry and in today’s economic climate, the number of people who are hungry has been increasing. According to Feeding America’s Web site, in 2007 there were 36.2 million Americans living in food insecure households (i.e., households that are not getting enough daily nourishment). That number is staggering as is, yet does not reflect the current state of the economy and the increased need.
St. Paul’s has a long history of providing food to individuals and families in need through our food pantry. We specialize in serving individuals who are on a special medical diet due to diabetes or renal failure. We also provide food to families that come to St. Paul’s seeking financial assistance and in need of food.
Our pantry is in great need of more items, especially canned meat, pasta, vegetables, pasta sauce, lite fruit, and any other non-perishable items. Please consider picking up an extra can or two the next time you are in the grocery store. Low salt and low sugar items preferred. There is a basket in the Narthex for your donations. On weekdays, drop your items off at the reception area in the parish building.
