Final Comments

I had really wanted to write some final comments on the blog, but, alas, life has gotten in the way again….so they will be brief.

Volunteering is a funny thing.  You go into it thinking you are the one giving, but more often than not, you instead walk away with the sure sense that you have gotten far more than you gave.  In this case, I was given the opportunity to spend time with this amazing group of fellow parishioners – to sleep en masse in cots (a la summer camp), to whip up sandwiches together each morning, to sand, to paint, to sing, to laugh, to bowl, to dance, to reflect, to pray, to don beads (lots of beads), to eat, to attend new churches together, and to meet these vibrant residents of this culturally rich city, especially our homeowners, who entertained us with stories and appreciated so much us still caring about them five years later.  I’m reminded of Caroline’s school motto, “What we keep we lose, and only what we give remains our own.”  God bless NOLA!
