Live From Around the World

Our First Day at Glide

July 14, 2009, San Francisco

Posted by Alex, a member of the J2A youth group:

Hey everybody!

This was the first day that we woke up at 6:15 in the morning to serve the homeless people at Glide Church. It was very interesting to experience the conditions under which of these people live. It felt good to serve them after seeing them out on the streets.

Later in the day, I recognized some of the homeless men and women that I had served breakfast that morning. As we walked by a homeless man, he thanked Hugh Brown for serving him breakfast.

It felt nice to have given him a sense of recognition because we were told that the worst feeling for a homeless person is the feeling of invisibility to everyone. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the week will bring.

See You Sunday!

I am enjoying reading the comments that have posted so far from the youth of the J2A. It is an amazing journey and experience for all of you. The contrast between the homeless and the kids will be something I hope they take with them the rest of thier lives so helping others will always be a part of theirs lives. This experience is invaluable. I loved Emma’s comment on the two meals and her insight of the value of freedom to choose what you eat versus eating at all!

Hi to all, and love to my daughter Chandler. I miss you and hope you are having a great time and wearing all those clothes you packed!
