Live From Around the World

Our First Day in San Francisco!

July 11, 2009, San Francisco

Posted by Brittany, a member of the St. Paul's J2A Group:

We finally made it to the big SAN FRAN!!!!! Our flight got in around noon our time and we have been on the move ever since!

Our day has been very interesting here in the big city. The hostel we are staying in is great with a lot of activity.

My name is Brittany and I learned something new about myself today while we were walking through the many different neighborhoods in San Francisco. It is very difficult for me to not give homeless people whatever there is that I can offer them. I feel that because I have so much and they have so little, I owe them whatever it is that I don’t need. That feeling of mine may change depending on what I experience and learn this upcoming week; I might learn things that will provide me better opportunities to make a difference.

Well, I guess that’s all for tonight friends and family.

May God bless you and I hope you have a fantabulous week!!!

Brittany:  This is Mimi.  You are in my prayers and thoughts each day.  I am so excited and pleased for you as you journey into this new world.  I hope you are keeping a diary so you can share your experiences with us when you get home.  You have such a heart for caring for others…I can only imagine what you are feeling for those you are seeing in need.  Your gifts of love, empathy and caring will mean a lot to those you meet.  You share those so generously with us…we feel so lucky to have you in our family.  We feel very blessed to see how God is working in your life and through your talents.  You are so special!  We love you so much.  We are praying that this experience will be a hallmark for you to build on for the rest of your life.  Treasure every minute.

Hi, Brittany and group. I am Brittany’s grandfather. My wife, Margaret Anne, and I are very pleased and impressed with what you are learning—and the week has only begun! Know that our prayers are with you that this will be a time of both learning and giving (and a lot of fun!), forming all sorts of patterns for your future.

We look forward to keeping up with all that is going on with you.

Greetings to the urban adventurers!  You are all in our thoughts and prayers as you continue your travels and experiences today.  The parish prayed for you all in church this morning.  I know you each will make a difference during the time you are in San Francisco and pray that you have many meaningful experiences.  To Scott:  “We miss you, Daddy!”

Hi Brittany ... it is your Mom ... I am so proud of all of you and have you all in my prayers as you move forward this second day of your trip.  I am excited that you are beginning to look at yourself and your blessings and are beginning to have a greater awareness of the needs and blessings of others ... as you know with Mommy’s job in social work I ask myself everyday the best way to use myself and our resources to truely create a difference ... I hope that this question you are asking starts a journey that you began yesterday yet will carry you through life each day as you have so much to offer within yourself and within your group this week especially,

My prayers and thoughts are with all of you as you take this amazing journey with yourselves, God, and each life that you touch and touches you this week.
