Ballots, Not Bullets

Catherine Crabill, a Northern Neck candidate for the House of Delegates, recently said the following at an anti-tax rally:
It's hard to know where to begin. For one thing, I'll quote another American, speaking about ballots and bullets, Abraham Lincoln:
As a gun owner, as a patriot, as a direct descendant of eleven Confederate soldiers, as a hunter, as a Christian, as a priest, as a citizen, as a Richmond resident, as all these things, and because I am all these things, I must go with Father Abraham's wisdom here, and not with Ms. Crabill's line of thinking.
There are many words to describe her words. One of those words is sedition.
Another word is un-American.
With thanks to Joe McCarthy and the red-baiters, "un-American" is a complicated word. Having acknowledged that, I will say that there many things that are American in good ways (e.g., baseball), and that there are many things that are American in bad ways (e.g., racism). When I say that what Ms. Crabill has done is un-American, I mean that it runs against what is best about America, and what is best about humanity.
Her language is seditious, reckless, inflammatory, and is an incitement to violence. In a word, it is a threat to the democratic process and thus a threat to Americans.
As Virginians, we must ask for better. As children of God, we must pray for better.
