While in Chicago, Reflecting on the (Spiritual) Journey
Heard author Lauren Winner. (She is FANTASTIC!). Some notes:
How many of us are wondering what's going on? Do we feel safe enough to acknowledge that?
To welcome the questions: how far does that go?
God's hiddenness.
"Horse Heaven," Jane Smiley, praying scene with Buddy Crawford: we must keep being saved.
The middle of the spiritual life: Beginnings and endings get a lot of attention. Middles, not so much.
Without prayer, the life of the Christian dies. And, before it dies, it gets sick.
Prayer is not a skill. Prayer is deeper and more mysterious than mere skill. Prayer is about encountering, recognizing, and joining (for lack of a better word) with the Holy, with the Presence of God. It is about a non-linear relationship, a living, evolving relationship with God. (That is a very loose rendering of some of her reflections.)
(Man, she is good.)
