Who We Are

Who We Are

A Word from Grace Street

Notes: Former, Latter, New

December 14, 2011

My Dear People,

Imagine if someone went around Richmond one night and put a note in every single mailbox, in the whole city, that said the same thing: "I know what you did."

Just take a moment and let your imagination run...

+

Imagine if, on the other hand, someone went around Richmond one night and put the following note in every single mailbox: "You are sheer gift. I love you."

Just take another moment and let your imagination go...

+

Here's a question: Which note would be more unnerving?

+

We are all guilty, guilty beyond our imagining.

And we are all loved, loved beyond our imagining.

Because of the latter, we can bear the former.

And because of the latter, we always have that chance to write a new note.

Your brother in Christ,
Wallace+

SERMONS

Easter Sunday: The Rev. D. Wallace Adams-Riley

We come into the world, seeking relationship, and, seeking understanding.

LENT 2B

EPIPHANY 2B

To Bethlehem; to Bethlehem, we have come.

And, of course, this Christmas, tonight, and tomorrow, new memories are being made; a Carol sung, pure and exquisite; an old friend; warm, endearing words exchanged; a first Christmas for a new grandbaby; a candle lit, a face aglow, eyes agleam.

The Pointer’s Point

More than fifty times, in his published writings, Barth refers to the Grunewald image; and, indeed, usually, it is precisely in reference to John,  and John’s relation to the figure of Christ; as he points.
Barth (and Grunewald before him) understood John’s sole purpose to be to serve as a pointer to Christ, a reference to Christ, a witness to Christ.
