Prayer for the Whole Human Family
My Dear
People,
With the exception of the few minutes we were within actual earshot of the members of the Westboro Baptist Church, there was a very cheerful, even giddy, spirit at the Holocaust Museum yesterday. And it was the same at the VCU Commons. A spirit of camaraderie, of common cause, of justice and of joy.
It was uplifting. It was refreshing.
+
We need those moments.
+
Of course there is more reconciling to be done.
+
And so we press on. And so we pray.
+
A prayer for the
human family (Book of Common Prayer, 815):
O God, you made us in
your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on
the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our
hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and
work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth;
that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around
your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Your brother in
Christ,
Wallace+
