Road Improvement
My Dear People,
A priest in the Green Mountain State tells the story of a long downhill on a highway, not all that far from where Gena grew up and my in-laws still live. Cars and trucks coming down the mountain easily and regularly get up to high speeds descending the mountain. And there is a sharp curve at the bottom. And that curve is more than many drivers are prepared for.
Just off the road at the point where cars and trucks usually get into trouble, there sits a house. And on the porch of that house are blankets, put there by the family that lives there, for use after the accidents.
Locals have been petitioning the State of Vermont for years to straighten out the road, but, for whatever reasons, nothing has changed, and the family continues to keep the blankets on hand.
+
As we go barreling toward Christmas, we might ask ourselves about the roads we travel.
What roads need straightening?
+
There are places and times that blankets are in order. And then there are places and times when the road needs to be straightened, when pathways need to be made straight.
As the wild-eyed prophet in the wilderness once said.
+
Road construction and improvement takes real investment.
Where will we invest?
Your brother in Christ,
Wallace+
