Worship at St. Paul’s

St. Paul's parishioners have diverse worship opportunities, with three regular Sunday morning services and a weekday 12:05 Eucharist in our chapel.  Average Sunday attendance has fluctuated between 300 and 400 over the past decade.

While we are generally satisfied with our Sunday worship, most parishioners expect more.  Through our membership survey [Survey Results], we learned that-

  • At least 33% of parishioners want Sunday worship to be more intellectually challenging and emotionally moving.
  • At least 94% identified the qualities of a good sermon as (a) challenging and thought provoking, (b) spiritually moving and inspirational, and (c) addressing issues beyond my personal life and local community.
  • A majority of respondents consider sermons that are (a) based on unambiguous religious authority or (b) merely comforting to be "unimportant" or "distracting".

During small group meetings, many parishioners envisioned inspirational Sunday morning worship, with the sanctuary overflowing with diverse people.

Parishioners agree that Sunday morning worship must be "the main event" that gathers us from disparate parts of our City.  As one long-standing parishioner says, "If you take care of the pulpit, the rest of the Church will take care of itself."

We pray that all who worship at St. Paul's
find inspiration for their daily life and work.
