Wonderful Wednesday CF discussion
October 14, 2009
In addition to the Sunday morning forum, a small group met after Wonderful Wednesday dinner to discuss open-ended questions regarding Christian Formation at St. Paul’s.
The best line of the evening was “Be careful! The Holy Spirit may just have us do something right!”
Emerging themes included:
- Miss the adult Sunday school experience. The only choices are forum or bible study
- Small groups develop relationships and can form a support network.
- Small groups should be “interest focused” so we can share and teach each other.
- The key component that distinguishes Christian Formation from other types of gatherings is the intentional effort regarding Spiritual formation, of which Christian formation is a subset.
- We do lots of things, but to what extent are they “formation”? We need to come to an agreement on what we mean by Christian Formation.
- Acknowledge the tension between the Bible and the relevancy to everyday life.
- Our history has given us Christian Formation has been challenging and relevant. e need to be fed “solid food”, not just “milk”.
- There was discussion, and not complete agreement about the clergy leading this effort, or lay driven. Wallace’s writings provide a challenging and provocative material that could be further explored as a basis of study!
