Job Opportunities at St. Paul’s

Downtown Missioner

The people of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church have created a new ministry position and are now actively looking for that person whom God will call as our Downtown Missioner.  We are a progressive, lay-driven, and socially active historic church located on Capitol Square in Richmond.  With the goal of more fully embracing our mission to “proclaim Christ in the heart of the city,” the Downtown Missioner will lead and support a bold initiative for us to develop fresh expressions of our community and ministry across greater Richmond, especially the 85,000 people who work downtown, and the 5,000 people who live downtown.  Responding to the changing demographics of downtown Richmond as well as our own desire to extend our reach, this person will be commissioned to open new doors, to build new relationships, and to create innovative opportunities to share the faith, the hope, and the love that we at St. Paul’s have found in Christ and in each other for almost 170 years.

Toward those ends, we expect the Downtown Missioner to be an ordained man or woman of deep faith with an entrepreneurial and pioneering spirit and a commitment to the spiritual exploration and development of all.  Importantly, she or he will have the authenticity and cultural agility to relate to diverse people with diverse perspectives in a range of urban settings, from homeless persons to business leaders, artists to medical researchers, downtown residents to suburban commuters.  The person will also have special gifts in building/strengthening/empowering small groups, and have excellent communication skills, including familiarity with social media and other contemporary avenues of expression and exchange.  We expect the Downtown Missioner to live in the downtown area and join in collaborative partnerships and shared ministry with the laity, staff, and clergy of St. Paul’s Church, as well as with all those “people of peace” (Luke 10:5-6) whom he/she encounters in the mission field, that is, people open to joining with us in community, faith, and service that affirms God’s potential to transform lives.

If you are ordained in the Episcopal Church, and if you believe you might be called to missional service in a downtown setting, we hope you will send a cover letter, your résumé and references to Mr. Mike Koschak,  Director of Administration & Finance, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 815 East Grace Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219
