2008 Lenten Lunch Grant Recipients

The Lenten Lunch program, which began in 1922, is the main fundraising arm of St. Paul's Episcopal Church Women. "Lenten Lunches" accompanies and complements the St. Paul's Lenten preaching series, another of our signature ministries. These short, interdenominational midday services run throughout Lent, ending on Ash Wednesday.

All profits from Lenten Lunches are re-distributed to benefit those in need in Richmond, Virginia, the Diocese, and abroad. Thanks to this program, in the past decade, St. Paul's Episcopal Church Women has contributed between $21,000 and $38,000 each year to those in need in the city, state, Diocese, and abroad.  To learn more about the type of programs we support, see the list of 2008 grant recipients below.

A Grace Place
A daycare for adults who have a variety of disabilities.

Boaz & Ruth
They provide vocational and educational training to formerly incarcerated people who are looking to turn their lives around.

Irvin Gammon Craig
Healthcare at St. Joseph’s Villa for the under- and uninsured.

Westminster Canterbury Fellowship Fund
Provides residential scholarships

Gateway Homes
Nonprofit organization in Virginia devoted to providing a transitional, residential treatment program for adults with mental illness.

St. James’s Childcare Center
Provides scholarship funding

Widwives for Haiti
St. Paul’s midwife, Jessica Jordan, teaches others in Haiti to become midwives so that more women in Haiti will have access to skilled care.

The Daily Planet
Provides a variety of services for those who are homeless and the working poor

Hope for Humanity
Hope & Resurrection School in the Sudan with Jennifer Ernst from Christ Church

ASK
Support for children suffering from cancer

ART 180
Creates and provides art-related programs for young people living in challenging circumstances, encouraging personal and community change through self-expression.


THROUGH THE DIOCESE OF VIRGINIA
Lenten Lunch proceeds support the following programs through a donation to the Diocese of Virginia

Book of Remembrance – Scholarship given in the name of a deceased loved one

Diocesan Altar Guild – Raises funds to fulfill the altar needs of the Continuing Congregations in the Diocese

ERD Gulfcoast - Continuing relief for the Gulf Coast communities that were impacted by Hurricane Katrina

St. Andrew’s School – Support this tuition-free school for the underprivileged.  St. Paul’s Mary Wickham is the Head of School.

Jackson-Feild Home – Home for troubled girls in Richmond and the Southside.

Boys’ Home – Home for troubled boys in Covington, Virginia

Chaplain Service – Prison Ministry

Migrant Ministry – Serves migrant workers

The Espiscopal Appalachian Minstries – Supports various ministries in Appalachia

Minstry to Native Americans – Supports various ministries to Native Americans
