Downtown Mission Team Adventures

June 2, 2010

Greetings, Downtown Adventurers. Welcome to our Summer season!

Two new adventures are growing in our midst. You are invited to join in forming each.

  1. First, Buford Scott invites all to join in meeting Downtown developers and their residents. In May Kimberly Allen and I visited with Brian White and his sales team at Main Street Realty, a Shockoe Bottom apartment developer (http://www.mainstreetrealty.info/). What a great way to meet our Downtown neighbors, to learn about their joys and disappointments and to discover our opportunities to live, laugh and love together!

Brian's team encouraged St. Paul's presence at the Farmer's Market during special Shockoe Bottom events. See http://events.richmond.com/search?city=Richmond&st=event. We also sensed the possibility of an Eyes on Richmond forum on the City's Shockoe Bottom development plans, which we passed on to its organizers.

Call Buford (804-780-3233) to sign up for a developer visit. Buford, I would like to go on another.

  2. Second, Wallace Adams-Riley would like help planning an evening of Mary Oliver poetry reading and reflection. Imagine a Wednesday evening gathering at a Downtown cafe. Imagine inviting the Parish and the public. What poems would you read? How would you invite reflections? Email Wallace, rector (at) stpauls-episcopal (dot) org, if you want to help with the planning.

Blessings this Summer season!

In the words of Mary Oliver (from her poem "Sometimes" in Red Bird)--"Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it."
