Prayer Yoga

According to the friendly folks at Richmond Magazine, Prayer Yoga on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. in our Chapel is one of 75 things every Richmonder should do.

#64, Go to worship, with a twist. St. Paul's Episcopal Church, like a lot of churches, hosts midweek activities -- including Prayer Yoga at 5 p.m. Wednesdays. Leader Suzanne McWilliams offers prayers while participants at all levels take up gentle positions (think lotus); church member Lewis Holley says the relaxed atmosphere helps him enter a state of contemplative prayer. Bring a mat and wear yoga clothes.

"Layers: Healing Through the Process of Making Art"

Artists' Opening Reception

Artist and art educator, Kristin Polich, will host a reception and present her exhibit "Layers," a mixed media show including collage, drawing, painting and encaustic that explores reconstruction and healing through the process of art making. The show will be up throughout December. A sample of her work is below.

About the artist: Kristin is a graduate of Hollins University and teaches Art and Photography at Matoaca High School in Chesterfield County.

"I believe and have seen evidence in myself and in my classroom that art has the ability to heal. Art can bring about personal, intimate healing by self-expression, as well as by bringing together a community or group of people. People are not only affected by the act of making art, but in turn the community around that art is forever affected by its presence," says the artist.

Advent Quiet Day

Prayer, Meditation, Silence

Prayer will frame the day, which will begin in the Chapel with Morning Prayer and conclude with Eucharist. In between, the repeating pattern will be brief meditation followed by silence. After the concluding Eucharist, a simple lunch of soup and bread will be served in the Youth Center. Refreshments will also be available throughout the morning. Come for part or all of the morning. Emmaus Ministry Holiday Walk-In Lunch

Walk-in lunch served for individuals in need

 As a member church of the Downtown Community Ministry, St. Paul's has provided Thursday lunch to the homeless, needy and working poor for 25 years. In the spirit of "welcoming the stranger," about 300 guests in need of a hot meal are served lunch each Thursday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Volunteers should arrive at 9:00am.
