Sat., June 13 from Si and Natalie
Dear Friends,
We are having an amazing time in Africa. We arrived in Dar after a really long trip, but we made it in one piece. The bus ride from Dar to Dodoma took eight hours, but it was great to see the scenery. We drove to Mwitikira on Monday and were greeted by literally thousands of smiling faces. The kids are so cute and happy, and we have been acting like five year olds as we sing, dance, play soccer, and do the the Hokey Pokey.
Every morning, we teach English to Standard
7 students, 9-16 year olds, who are preparing to take a national exam in the
early fall. They are so eager to learn and have such positive attitudes, which
are so different from the US. After a large, delicious lunch each day, Natalie
and I help Form 2 students, 15-19 year olds, with their English while my mom and
Suzanne teach English to teachers. After this we play with all of the children.
The games include futbol (soccer), net ball, dancing, singing, jump rope, and of
course tons of laughing.
Father Erasto, his wife Rebeka, and their two
children Esta and Joshua are incredibly welcoming and are doing everything
possible to make us feel at home. Happy helps out with the cooking, and she
definitely has the right name. The village is desperately poor, but they are
truly rich in spirit. Mwitikira is an amazing place.
Hope all is well in
Richmond.
