“First Fridays East” Spring Feature

Downtown art walk expands east to feature St. Paul’s, CenterStage, Library of VA, and UR-Downtown

First Fridays LogoRichmond, VA - Richmond's popular arts and cultural program, First Fridays Art Walk, makes a special expansion east this spring to connect with Library of Virginia, Richmond CenterStage, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and University of Richmond Downtown. This exciting partnership with First Fridays coordinators, Curated Culture, will bridge the heart of the First Fridays program area that encompasses Belvidere to 1st Streets to four of Downtown's renowned cultural anchor sites that lie just east between 6th and 9th Streets.

On March 5, April 2, and May 7 between 5:00pm-8:00pm "First Fridays East" will be a special spring feature of Richmond's popular First Fridays Art Walk. These culturally rewarding evenings will offer visitors exciting activities such as food and wine tastings of Virginia made products, live music, diverse exhibitions, and art during the early hours of the evening at the Library of Virginia, St. Paul's, and UR Downtown, while CenterStage will top off the night with free performances at 8:00pm at their dynamic new facilities.

All activities are free and open to the public. Free parking available at the Library of Virginia's underground parking deck from 5:30pm-8:00pm and at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where First Fridays visitors can enter St. Paul's parking deck at 8th Street between 5:30pm-8:30pm and exit anytime, making visiting downtown even easier and convenient.

The musical duo "Shake & Howdy" performs Bluegrass and Roots Music and is comprised of University of Richmond professor Dr. Barry Lawson and bandmate, Dave Kuo.

University of Richmond design students present collages based on ideas about how personal identity is created by one's environment. Each student's collage presents clues as to how they define themselves and how they've been shaped by where they live, grew up, and traveled. Students from the elementary schools Overby-Sheppard, G.W. Carver, and William H. Fox elementary created collages based on 2 and 3-dimensional objects, stamp paintings, and abstract patterns drawn from textiles and ceramics, still life paintings, and Pop art.
