St. Paul's Episcopal Church invites you to join us for the 2010 Community Lenten Series, which features preaching and lunch downtown on weekdays beginning Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17 and continuing through Wednesday of Holy Week, Mar. 31. This season, with the theme "A Gospel for the 21st Century," we offer fresh, dynamic preaching that speaks to the Gospel's relevance in our lives, here and now. We are also recommitting ourselves to the lunches by bringing back Mondays.

"The annual Lenten Series is one of St. Paul's defining ministries as we carry out our mission of proclaiming Christ in the heart of the city. St. Paul's is as committed to our Lenten offering in 2010 as our church has been for over a century," said the Rev. Wallace Adams-Riley, Rector of St. Paul's.

Each 30-minute service begins at 12:30 p.m. and lunch is served in the Parish Hall in two sittings (11:45 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 - 1:30 p.m.). Individuals can come for lunch, for preaching, or for both parts of the day, as they prefer. Childcare is available from 11:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. For the second year in a row, we also offer limited, free parking in the St. Paul's Garage on a first come, first served basis for those attending service and/or lunch.

Preaching is free. Lunch costs $7. Desserts are available for $2. Proceeds from the luncheons support a variety of charitable organizations. In 2009, $28,300 was donated to 27 organizations, including Art 180, Daily Planet, Episcopal Relief & Development, Midwives for Haiti, Positive Vibe Foundation, and William Byrd Community Center.

Over 465 volunteers from more than 80 area churches prepare and serve St. Paul's Lenten Lunch. The lunches date back to 1922 and the Lenten offering is over a century old.
