WHAT/WHEN: 12th Annual Summer Point-in-Time Count and Survey of Area Homeless
Thursday, July 29, 2010 - 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

WHERE: St. Paul's Episcopal Church
815 East Grace Street
Richmond, VA 23219

BACKGROUND:

Homeward, the Greater Richmond region's planning and coordinating agency for homeless services, will conduct the summer 2010 point-in-time count of those experiencing homelessness in the Greater Richmond region this Thursday, July 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. More than 300 homeless residents are anticipated at the central event site, while data will be collected in Chesterfield, Henrico and Hanover counties by mobile teams from Homeward, area police and social service agencies. Preliminary findings from the one-day survey will be released in early August 2010, and more detailed information, including updates on veterans, ex-offenders, and children currently experiencing homelessness, as well as the impact of foreclosures on area residents, will be available in September.

The twice yearly point-in-time count provides a snapshot of the number of people experiencing homelessness on a single day. In addition, detailed survey information is captured and analyzed in order to address current trends in the crisis.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES:
