(Richmond, VA)- The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) will soon host "Tiffany: Color and Light," the most important exhibition of the work of Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) in a generation. To complement the show and attract visitors inspired by it, St. Paul's Episcopal Church has launched an online resource guide detailing the church's highly significant collection of eleven Tiffany works, including ten memorial windows and the mosaic altarpiece.
"The St. Paul's community is excited about the VMFA's reopening and the decision to showcase Tiffany as one of its first major exhibitions. We are blessed with one of the largest collections of Tiffany in Richmond and welcome all those seeking to better understand the religious works of Tiffany to visit. You will experience Tiffany in a whole new light," said The Rev. Wallace Adams-Riley, Rector of St. Paul's.
Those interested in more information about the Tiffany memorial windows at St. Paul's can visit the Web site and read more about each of them. One of the windows ("Cornelius and the Angel") bears the discernible signature of "Louis C. Tiffany, N.Y." The installation dates of the windows range from 1894 to 1928. Information on the site comes from the St. Paul's book, Windows of Grace: A Tribute of Love, available for sale at the VMFA Museum Shop during the exhibit and at St. Paul's. ($25 hard cover; $15 soft cover)
St. Paul's Tiffany Resource Center also includes a guide developed by the Diocese of Virginia to Tiffany glass at churches throughout the Diocese, including St. James's (four Tiffany windows) and Grace & Holy Trinity (one window) Episcopal Churches in Richmond.
